The Formation of the Sural Nerve in Korean Fetuses
Cheong Yean-Tae

Abstract
The. origin of the peroneal communicating nerve, the formation of the sural nerve and the lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve were studied on 214 lower extremities. of 107 Korean fetuses. 1. The formation of the sural . nerve by union of peroneal communicating and. medial sural cutaneous nerves was 52 cases (24.3%), in which lateral sural cutaneous nerve was absent. 2. The sural nerve formed by the union of the peroneal com :unicating and. medial sural cutaneous nerves was 28 .cases (13.1%), in which lateral rural cutaneous nerve arose from the common peroneal- nerve, just distal to the origin.. of the peroneal communicating nerve. 3. The peroneal communicating and the lateral sural cutaneous nerves arose by a common trunk from the common peroneal nerve and the = formation of the rural nerve-byunion of peroneal communicating and medial sural cutaneous nerves was 95 cases (44.4%). 4. The level of the rural nerve formation was in lower two thirds of theft leg In 93.1%. 5. The peroneal communicating nerve was absent in 18.2%, in these cases. no sural nerve was formed. 6. In case of absence of the sural nerve formation, the lateral dorsal cutaneous nerve was formed by the distal and lateral extension of the medial sural. cutaneous nerve on 21 cases (9.8%). 7. In case of absence of the sural nerve formation, the lateral dorsal_ cutaneous nerve was formed by the distal and lateral extension of the lateral sural cutaneous nerve on 18 cases (8.4%).
